Hi, this is Jake Hower from Travel Agent Profits, and I thought I’d quickly run through a quick hack with Facebook to get some cheap advertizing and increase your followers a little bit, or your fans, or your traffic to your website.

It’s a really easy process; effectively involves posting onto your Facebook page, and then creating an ad to promote that particular post. It’s really easy. On our website, we’ve got our latest travel news as being posted here on the site, which gets emailed out to all of our clients, but then it gets popped up onto the Facebook page. We just grab the URL and we head across to Facebook and we paste in the URL; you see it all pops up there.

Generally, what I’ll do is that I’ll add in a little bit of a description, usually pulling it straight from the blog-post. That’s all we actually do there. That all pops in there, so I’ll post that onto our site. That goes there. Now, if you have a quick look at this, this will actually play a video on the site, which doesn’t really matter. You don’t need video. Now, I find video is really engaging, so it works quite well for this type of thing.

Once we’ve done that, we jump across to the Facebook ads now. It’s pretty easy to set up. Just go to Facebook.com/ads, and you just effectively need a credit card and that’s about it. Once you’re here, there’s a couple of different things that you do. You can create new ads. Now I’ll run through that in just a second, but I want to give you a little bit of background on how I’ve targeted… Now of course Facebook advertizing is really good because you can target really tightly, and get really great results from that. You’ll see here a whole heap of ads which I’ve got, which are all different posts, and I just pause the old ones that I don’t want to run anymore, but to give you an idea, this is our last weeks’ worth of posts for Pan Australian Travel. You can see we spent close to $20.00 there, and our campaign has been seen by just about six-and-a-half thousand people, resulting in 44-odd clicks and actions, which is usually a video-watch or a page-like, so it’s great for, I guess, subscriber engagement, but also getting your brand out there a little bit there.

Now what I generally do here is that I will target friends of fans. I’ll target then the topics then that are inside the post, which are mentioned in the post. In this instance then, let’s go ahead and create an ad. It’s all pretty straight-forward – Point and click. We just choose the page we want to target. It’s this one here… We’re going to tag a specific post on Pan Australian Travel, and we’ll choose the post we want to tag. See, that’s really easy to do. What I’ve done here is, you’ve got that there, and you can do one of two things. You’ll see on the right here, it’ll preview the ad. We can use one like that which will show people who are relating to the person it’s being shown to as liking it, or just a selected post. I generally go with that one because it just brands it a little better for you. You choose your audience demographics here. As you can see, you can tighten it right down. I would go for people above 30 because that will fall into our age-group. Now this one will be the friends of fans, so I can ignore the interests. I just pop in the site that I want to tag it – Pan Australian Travel. See our audience drops to about 25,000. Now I want to… I’ll tag it anyone, so that will include people who are already fans and people who aren’t but have got friends that are already fans. Objective I usually go for, “Like my page”, when we’re promoting a post. Here you can create a new campaign. Now, I keep all page-posts under the one campaign, which in this case is this, so I don’t need to touch anything here. It will automatically pop inside that campaign and the budget for the entire campaign will be $3.00 per day. You can spend as much or as little as you like. I think the minimum is about a dollar.

That’s it. You can see this is the new ad, and it’s just pending review, so we’ll go ahead and we’ll re-name that to today… OK, so that’s how I’ll do it.

Now I’ll show you one more just to target an interest so you can see how that works as well. Again, we just go up to “create an ad”, choose what we’re looking for, put it in there. Now this one mentions Qantas and Virgin, so I’m going to target Qantas. You can target more than one at a time, but I like keeping them separate so you can check conversion rates, et cetera, et cetera. I’m going to target Qantas there. You could see it’s quite tight, which is amazing. I’m just showing you here that there is quite a few things you can do.

Now, for this one I’m going to target people who are not connected to Pan Australian because my previous ad is going to be hitting people who are already connected. See, there’s a few extra advanced targeting. Again, by status, et cetera, et cetera. You can also tag it by work place, which is really, really good, and as you can see, there’s a whole lot of brands in that there as well, which is really amazing. Our audience right now… let’s get rid of that… is 125,000 people. I might reduce that just a little bit as well, and I’m going to make the maximum 60… 60 will be the maximum, and I’ll pop that up to 35. No, we’ll make it no maximum because Pan Australian generally has an older clientele. That’s it there. We’ve got an audience of 100,000 people, which is quite good.

All right, so that’s it… and I’ll just rename that to the relevant source there, and then I’ll just drop off some of the older videos just because they’ve been displayed a bit. Generally, Facebook will only like two or three or four ads running at the same time, so anything else, you may as well turn them off. As I add new ones, I’ll just pause the old campaigns.

That’s it. That’s pretty much all there is to it. Just to give you an example, in the last seven days, we’re targeting Virgin Australia; there are the targeting commands there. You can see that we’ve had 11 video plays, four page-likes and one post-like. Now all of that is for under $20.00 when you include all of these other actions as well, so it’s a really cheap way to get your face in front of a lot of people, but also to build your audience.

Thanks very much for tuning in. If you’ve got any feedback please let me know. Make sure that you sign up, and you stay signed up, and I will continue sending you some useful posts like this. Great. Thank you.

Hi, this is Jake Hower from Travel Agent Profits, and I thought I'd quickly run through a quick hack with Facebook to get some cheap advertizing and increase your followers a little bit, or your fans, or your traffic to your website.

Great. Thank you.
